CREATE YOUR OWN CHARACTER 
Living in 2023 can be difficult, there is a pressure to succeed with wealth, happiness, and to be the best version of yourself. On traditional media there is this delusion that all the people you follow have perfect lives, while in reality it could be the complete opposite. These influencers/creators have created their own character that they want to portray, for some it might be helping in their overall happiness and success. When I first was thinking of this concept of influencers and how there is a layer of fakeness on social media, I thought about how these people got to these levels of “fame”. I find that most of the time, what is portrayed on social media is the ideal version of a person, and we all assume they can’t be that perfect all the time, can they? Well I decided I was going to try and create my own character, not only for the use of social media and brand building, but for personal building as well.
Meditation and manifestation are two things that are very prevalent in my life. I like to believe I can create any destiny of my own, which is why I decided to try a new method of journaling called “creating your character”. Essentially what it is, is that you write this story of a person (can even use a different name) and create their ideal life. This includes job, hobbies, social life, etc, these things should represent what your essential life is.
Whenever you are feeling unsure or worried, think about “what would my character do?”
To give some examples, when I am trying to decide what to wear in the morning and I'm feeling self conscious about my decision, I'll ask myself, what would my character wear? It helps bring me into my most confident self, almost pretending I'm someone else. As time passes, I end up not even thinking about this character I've built, because at the end of the day I am the character.
You can be anyone you want to be if you use methods of self empowerment. In the fashion industry, it can be so difficult to feel confident. There are set standards of beauty, which are slowly evolving, but still quite confined when it comes to individuality and diversity. As someone who is trying to enter the industry, the wall that separates the icons from the new creatives is tall. There is a fight for equal opportunities for people of colour, all body shapes, and the LGBTQ+ community. The world is slowly evolving to be more accepting of all people entering as a designer, model, or just a creative.
Finding your confidence in a world that feels like it's against you is a hard fight in itself, but there are ways to find yourself in these moments of self doubt. By using the “character” method, you can trick your brain into thinking that you're acting in someone else's shoes instead of your own. This is a method that has helped me immensely into becoming more confident in not only myself, but in the work I create. Your biggest competition is yourself, it's time to start taking your world into your own hands and creating your own universe. Live in your delusional era and be your own main character.
