How to Feel Trendy Without Participating in Fast Fashion
HOW TO FEEL TRENDY WITHOUT PARTICIPATING IN FAST FASHION
WHAT IS A TREND PREDICTION THESE DAYS?
It feels as though everyday you go online, there is a new trend popping up, which makes it hard for most people to feel “trendy” while still being conscious. Fast fashion companies are still mass producing items on a daily basis. Since trends are continuously turning over at extremely fast rates, these companies are thriving more than ever. Today we’re going to look at some ways you can feel trendy, without over consuming.
The best trend that has come out of recent years is vintage clothing. It opens the door to endless opportunities of outfits, without buying brand new. By buying vintage (or thrifted) you are able to feel more “unique” because most likely, the piece you find won’t be found anywhere else. Some staple vintage pieces you should build your Spring wardrobe with are:
LACE & SHEER GARMENTS
This can come in ribbon, tops, skirts, dresses, almost every lace/sheer garment right now is trending. If you don't already own a lace or sheer garment, you can easily source one from your local thrift store. An easy way to DIY a lace shirt is to cut the lining out of an already existing lace top, this will create the most perfect lace/sheer moment.
MASCULINE & FEMININE
Clothing has no gender. By mixing masculine and feminine clothing you are able to play around with new silhouettes and outfits that may not be possible before. Whether it's a men’s graphic tee paired with a long flowy skirt, or a pair of mens baggy shorts with a lace cami, the options are endless.
"LONG" SHIRTS
The crop top has been taking over for the past few years, thank you Y2K. Although the classic crop top is still trendy, throwing a hip-length shirt into the mix can change up the whole aesthetic. Whether its an old t-shirt you use for pyjamas, or a blouse your grandma gave you, essentially any top can work for this trend (especially when you throw your personal style in there).
OVER ACCESSORIZING
Lastly, one of my new personal favourites is OVER accessorizing. Personally, I didn't want to go to a fast fashion store to purchase jewellery that is going to tarnish in two weeks. When experimenting with this trend, check out the costume jewellery section of your local thrift store. By adding tons of accessories, it creates interest and can add colour (or bling) into any basic outfit.
